How to Write Headlines That Will Make Your Business Grow

advertising branding marketing May 04, 2021

Is your business struggling to generate leads? This could be due to ineffective headlines. Headlines are the first thing people see and they can make or break a blog post or video. They need to be attention-grabbing and quick-hitting, but also provide enough information for readers to decide if they want more information or not (more on that later).

But sometimes it can be hard coming up with an effective headline, so we've compiled a list of six techniques you can use to craft the perfect headline that'll drive traffic and grow your business.

  1. One of the best ways to create a headline is to make it into a question because readers love questions! For example: "How can you help your business grow?" Use a question to pique the reader's interest and make them want to know what you're asking. One of my favorite strategies is "How can ____ help your _____ grow?" It's a simple question that will easily pique their interest.
  2. Use numbers to create intrigue. Numbers can act as a pattern interrupt, breaking up a sentence and making readers curious. For example, "See the top 8 social media marketing mistakes." Another example is "See the top 13 social media marketing mistakes." This would be a way to compare and contrast with similar articles. You can also use numbers in quotes, such as "What's your favorite 5 quotes?" or "The most recommended book of all time has sold over 140 million copies." So, by using these techniques you will intrigue readers and get them to read or watch your content.
  3. The power of provocative statements lies in their ability to create intrigue and raise questions. Provocative words are able to spark curiosity, which can be used as a powerful tool when creating headlines. Consider how the following sentences use provocative language to garner interest and curiosity: - "The Secret to Making a Million Dollars" - "A Complete Guide on How To Be Successful in Life" Provocative language is just one tool in your arsenal for writing headlines, but it may turn off some readers. Be sure that your headline is a good fit for the audience you're targeting when deciding to use provocative language in your headlines.
  4. Headlines are the first impression readers get when they come across your article or video. It's important that you make it count because this is the only chance you have to grab their attention! When writing headlines, don't be afraid to use emotional words and personal stories. These will help your readers connect with what you're saying and give them a reason to continue reading or watch your video. Some examples: "How I overcame my fear of public speaking" or "Why you should never give up on your dreams". The key to writing headlines is getting the reader interested in what they're about to read. You need them invested before they even start reading! The best way to do this is by using emotional words and personal stories that share your struggles and triumphs. When you make it personal, people can't wait to read the article or watch the video!
  5. Keep it short, sweet, and simple - don't make people work too hard to read your content! The most successful headlines are often surprising, provocative, or humorous and may create a curiosity gap for the reader. The content of your article should follow with a similar style - short, concise, highly visual (images can captivate readers), and deliver on what it promises in its title. It is important to have the content in the article or video match what the headline promised. A great tip to use when thinking about how to write an enticing title is by using powerful words, such as fascinating, shocking, or amazing.
  6. Add an image that matches the headline. Having an image that matches or reinforces what you're saying in the headline will make your headlines more effective. The image can be a picture or a graphic. The image is important because it can supplement your headline. This is a great way to make sure that readers stay engaged with the content and don't just scroll right by, or worse - get distracted.
